Portivechju, or Porto-Vecchio “the old port”, probably owes its name to the fact that it was one of the first ports in Corsica. The town’s traditional economy is based on the exploitation of local resources such as cork, wood and salt: the only salt marshes in Corsica since the 18th century, Portivechju’s salt marshes have elevated the town to the status of Cità di Sali, the city of salt!
Famous for its white sandy beaches (Bay of SANTA GIULIA, PALOMBAGGIA, TAMARICCIU…), its gulf and its marina, PORTO VECCHIO will also seduce you with the charm of its old town and its warm atmosphere.
THE BAY OF SANTA GIULIA
From your accommodation you have access via a footpath to the paradise beach of SANTA GIULIA Bay. The water is crystal-clear and the sand fine and white.
To the south-west of the bay of Santa Giulia lies a pond and lido fed by 3 streams: Lezza, Alzellu and Vignarellu, and classified as a Natural Area of Ecological, Faunistic and Floristic Interest. A veritable concentration of biodiversity, it’s home to pipit rousseline, passerines, Cetti’s warbler and other water birds.
THE FAR SOUTH OF CORSICA
Our location is ideal for exploring the entire SOUTH and discovering BONIFACIO, its old town and breathtaking limestone cliffs, the LION DE ROCCA PINA and its unspoilt beach, SANTA MANZA, RONDINARA… all exceptional places within a 50-kilometer radius of your accommodation.
THE ALTA ROCCA
Just 30 minutes by car from your accommodation, L’Alta Rocca lies in the heart of the Extreme South mountain range, enveloped by the Bavedda and Ospedale massifs and the Cuscionu plateau. Its backdrop is Monte Alcudina or Incudine, the highest peak in southern Corsica at 2134 m. above sea level. A territory protected by U Parcu di Corsica, the Alta Rocca is commonly referred to as the “Land of the Lords”: a stronghold of customs and traditions. This territory, very close to our lodgings, will be the perfect opportunity to discover the interior with a more down-to-earth getaway (hiking, river…and gastronomy).
